Tech Lead, Storage Infrastructure

We’re looking for a Tech Lead with experience in infrastructure and a strong passion for reliability and operability. You will work with a world-class team of engineers on building software-driven reliability for Asana’s online storage infrastructure and solving challenges unique to our domain. The Storage Infrastructure team builds and manages infrastructure to ensure the reliability and scalability of Asana's online user data systems such as databases and search. You will collaborate with a team that supports Asana’s core data infrastructure, empowering all user workflows, AI features, and offline analytics. This role offers the chance to deliver critical impact and take full ownership while working closely with partner teams. As Asana scales rapidly, the team provides opportunities to design and build complex engineering systems at scale, utilizing industry best practices and innovative solutions.

This role is based in our Warsaw office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. Position Overview

As the Technical Team Lead for our Storage Infrastructure team, you'll serve as both a hands-on technical expert and a technical leader, guiding a team of engineers in building and scaling our distributed storage systems. While this role focuses on technical leadership rather than people management, you'll be instrumental in technical decision-making, project execution, and mentoring team members.

What you'll achieve

• Lead technical design and implementation of complex storage infrastructure projects, writing high-quality code while guiding the team's technical direction
• Drive architectural decisions and technical strategy for storage infrastructure, ensuring alignment with broader engineering goals
• Mentor team members through technical guidance, code reviews, and architectural discussions
• Coordinate with product teams and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical implementations
• Participate in and lead the on-call rotation, setting examples for production incident management
• Balance and prioritize technical debt, feature work, and infrastructure improvementsChampion engineering best practices and help establish technical standards
• Provide technical leadership in cross-team initiatives involving storage infrastructure

About you

• 8+ years of software development experience, with deep expertise in distributed systems and storage infrastructure
• Track record of successfully leading technical projects and mentoring engineers
• Strong hands-on coding abilities and system design skills3+ years of experience building and scaling high-volume distributed data systems
• Deep understanding of relational databases (particularly MySQL), along with experience in other data stores (NoSQL, Search)
• Experience operating databases in cloud environments (we are using AWS RDS)
• Extensive experience with cloud services and modern infrastructure tools
• Experience in making technical trade-offs and articulating them to stakeholders
• Strong communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
• History of fostering technical excellence while maintaining team velocity

Additional experience we value

• Experience with complementary data systems like OpenSearch or similar technologies
• Strong background in SRE principles and practices
• Experience in service-oriented architectures and microservices
• Track record of improving system reliability and performance at scale
• Previous people management experience

For this role, the estimated base salary range is between 37,000 PLN - 47,000 PLN gross per month (subject to all taxes and necessary deductions) . The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified.

In addition to base salary, your compensation package may include additional components such as equity and sales incentive pay (for most sales roles), and benefits.
